Do you wear makeup regularly?  If so, chances are your skin needs a detox.  Clay masks are great to detox the skin.  Clay masks also do wonders for skin that struggles with breakouts and acne.

Today I want to share with you my recipe for a professional quality deep cleansing bentonite clay facial mask.  The type of bentonite clay I use to make this mask is  Bonne Terre 100% Pure Bentonite Clay , All Natural Healing Sodium Clay Sourced In USA.  To learn my easy recipe for a professional quality detox clay mask, please keep reading.
Bentonite clay comes from volcanic ash, with the largest source being located in a town called Fort Benton, Wyoming - hence it's name.  The volcanic ash is rich in lots of minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium, and silica.

Want to know why bentonite clay is so popular in facial masks??

Here are just a few amazing things that bentonite clay can do for your skin:

1. Removes toxins from skin: When you mix bentonite clay with liquid, you create negatively charged ions.  These negative ions bind with positively charged toxins and positively charged chemical.  The toxins and chemicals are then washed away when you remove the mask. (Beeswax produces negative ions when burned in candles which also bind toxins, see my post: Homemade DIY Scented Candle Gift ).

2.  Softens the skin via mineral silica - Bentonite clay is loaded with silica, a mineral that strengthens connective tissues and softens the skin.

3.  Shrinks the size of your pores and unclogs pores

4. Removes excess oil (called sebum) from your face - excess oil causes whiteheads, blackheads, and bacteria overgrowth, which results in acne.

5.  Improves skin circulation - Bentonite clay pulls excess hydrogen out of cells, allowing room for oxygen to come in and fill the void, which helps improve skin circulation

Now that we know how good this clay is for us, let's get started making our mask!

This bentonite cay mask recipe requires just 3 ingredients:

-1 Tsp Bentonite Clay I use Bonne Terre 100% Pure Bentonite Clay , All Natural Healing Sodium Clay Sourced In USA

-1 Tsp. of Raw Unfiltered Honey. Here is a good one: Nature Nate's 100% Pure, Raw and Unfiltered Honey, 32 Ounce

Mix the ingredients together and apply to the face. Leave on for about 15-20 minutes.  You should feel your skin getting tight.  See pictures below:

When you are done, justly gently wash off the mask with warm water. At first it will feel like it will take forever to wash off, but the mask softens up quickly, keep just massaging your face with warm water.  The washing away of the mask will also help exfoliate dead skin cells which is GREAT for your skin - see my post on The Benefits of Daily Exfoliation.

Note on Using Raw Honey: The only honey that is worth even bothering to use is raw honey, you can view some here: Nature Nate's 100% Pure, Raw and Unfiltered Honey, 32 Ounce.  Pasteurized honey has had all its vitamins, minerals, and health qualities stripped from it.  If its not raw, it's basically useless.

Why is Nature Nate's 100% Pure, Raw and Unfiltered Honey, 32 Ounce good for the skin you ask?  Read my 4 tops reasons down below:
1.  Raw honey is a natural antibacterial, so it will kill acne causing bacteria.

2.  Raw honey is full of antioxidants, which helps combat aging of the skin.

3. Raw honey is a natural humectant, meaning that it will draw moisture from the mask into the skin to soften and plump it.

4.  Raw honey is said to lighten scars because of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which help skin regeneration.

So next time you feel like you need a spa day, just whip up a bentonite clay mask and your skin will thank you for it!!  If you enjoyed this post, you may enjoy my other skincare posts, all of which can be found under my page, Skincare, which is always located at the top of my site.
