10 Types of Profile Pictures You Want To Avoid Using On Pinterest.

Do you have Pinterest?  I guess I should say, are you on Pinterest?  Chances are that you probably are on Pinterest, and do have a profile.  Now, my next question to you is, are you a blogger using Pinterest?  If you are also a blogger, you are probably trying to use Pinterest to gain exposure for your blog.  If this is the case, then I want to talk to you today about the profile picture you are using.  I have sort of been around, Pinterest land that is, and I have seen some really funny profile pictures.  Let me just cut to the chase here - I have seen some profile pictures that nobody should be using, especially if they are a blogger trying to gain exposure for their blog.  If you'd like to learn what those pictures are and whether you could be making this error, please keep reading.

To make things easier for everyone, I have sorted all the notoriously bad profile pictures I have seen out there in Pinterest land into ten categories. To illustrate these profile picture types, I am going to use strictly my own pictures, so basically I will be making fun of myself a lot in this post. If this sounds good to you, please keep reading!

1.  The Psycho Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

This is the profile picture in which you look, well, totally psycho.  It may be your stare, it may be your eyebrows, it may be your lack of smiling, or it may be something else, we are really not sure.  All we know is that you look completely crazy and psychotic.  Please don't use this picture in your Pinterest profile!

2.  The Super Close Up Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

Have you seen this profile picture on Pinterest?  This is the one where the picture is so close, that you sort of feel like you are looking up the person's nose.  Please, I beg you, zoom out on those profile pictures!

3.  The Anti-Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

This is the profile picture of the person who must have something against profile pictures, because their picture is the complete opposite of a profile picture.  It is usually an object, and an object that is completely unrelated to what their Pinterest page is about.  Perhaps these people just like to leave their viewers guessing?  A perfect example of the anti-profile pic would be my picture above, a picture of my toddler's toes.

4.  The Everything But You Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

This is the profile picture that has waaay too much background in it and waaay too little person in it.  In my picture above, I seem to be highlighting the large flatbead behind me more than I am highlighting myself.  These profile pictures will make your viewers feel confused, or throw them into a fit of giggles, both are likely outcomes.

5.  The Overly Sexy Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

Aaah, the overly sexy profile pic!  I see a lot of these on Pinterest too.  Some of them are actually pretty great, but leave those sexy selfie pics for Instagram guys and gals, not Pinterest.  And yes, we all know that you are a really sexy person, don't worry.

6.  The Really Bad Lighting Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

Okay, I totally commiserate with those that have the really bad lighting profile pic because I have been there many a time myself.  You feel like taking a selfie, do all your makeup just right, then bam, you realize the sun has gone down and now you have no good lighting for your selfie.  I understand that the struggle is real here.  And I have two words for you:  Ring Light. It's the answer to all your bad lighting selfie woes, I promise you.  Basically it's a light that you attach to your phone's camera and it makes it look like daytime all the time.  Bye-bye awful night selfie, hello beautiful sunlight selfie!  You can buy a cheap but good one from Amazon here: Ring Light for Camera [Rechargable Battery]Selfie LED Camera Light [36 LED] for iPhone iPad Sumsung Galaxy Photography Phones, White

 7.  The "Here's My Ear" Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

Okay, okay, you guys got me here.  This used to be my profile pic on Instagram and Pinterest ha ha ha.  To my defense, I really, really like my handmade (by me) clay turkey earrings, and I just wanted to show them off.  I also think I look sooo much better from the side, so yeah, you have probably seen a lot the "here's my ear" shots from me if you are one of my followers.  Sorry everyone!

P.S. - You can find me on both Instagram and Pinterest here and here and I love new followers and promise to follow you back: Instagram/themakeupequation, Pinterest/makeupequation

8.  The "I'm A Unicorn" Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

Yes, we totally get that you love unicorns, you love unicorn hair, and you love pastels even more.  But does your unicorn loving pastel colored hair self need to go into your profile picture?  Maybe it does, I could be wrong. P.S.- I am a huge unicorn lover myself and I tag almost every picture I post on my Instagram with the hashtags #myunicornlife too, so no hate here!

9.  The Celebrity That Isn't You Profile Pic.

Okay, I don't have a profile picture for this one because I don't want to steal any celebrities picture, but I think you guys all know what I am talking about here.  No, you are not Jennifer Lopez or P-Diddy, and we know that, so please, just put a real picture of yourself in your Pinterest profile picture, you are fooling nobody with that celebrity pic.

10.  The Phone Selfie Profile Pic.

10 Types of Really Bad Pinterest Profile Pictures To Avoid At All Costs

This profile picture shows off your phone more than it shows off you.  Now I do love my lipstick iphone case and think everyone should go and buy one just like it, but for a Pinterest profile pic, my phone really should not be the main focus.  Just say "no" to this common profile pic mistake.

I hope you enjoyed learning about the ten most common types of errors that I see in Pinterest profile pictures.  If your profile picture falls into one of these ten categories then hey, no judgement here, many of my own profile pictures have fallen into these categories too.  It's all about learning and getting better in the blogging world, and we all make mistakes when we are learning!
