My Best Kept Beauty Secret

My Best Kept Beauty Secret

My Number One, Biggest and Best, Beauty Secret.

Recently I realized that I had never shared my biggest and best kept beauty secret with you guys in any of my other posts.  It is this secret of mine that allows me to achieve many of the other beauty secrets that I have talked about.  If you are interested in learning what my best kept beauty secret is, and why you too should strive to practice it, please keep reading.

If you have read my other beauty articles, you know that I talk a lot of about the importance of healthy life habits.  Short lived diets and fads never work.  The trick to sticking with something is finding something that you can do for a life time.  With the exception of plastic surgery, most beauty doesn't happen over night.  Instead, beauty is the result of practicing lots of good life habits over many years.  I would not be able to do many of the things I talk about in my beauty articles  if I did not practice my best kept beauty secret.

My biggest and best kept beauty secret is this:  keeping my stress levels as low as I can.  I know this may sound overly simple, but I cannot stress, (no pun intended), the importance of it enough.  All of my other beauty secrets are possible because of this one beauty secret.

High stress levels cause a myriad of health problems that lead to deteriorating beauty.  Just read this article by Healthline on 20 Effects Of Stress On The Body if you don't believe me.  I have personally seen the negative beauty effects of stress in my life as well.  When I am stressed out, I eat more and my preferences for food shifts to the unhealthy variety like candy and chocolate.  When I am stressed out, I also find it harder to sleep.  When I am stressed out, I pick at my face more.  And when I am stressed out, I experience more hair loss and have noticed my hair is also not as shiny or healthy looking.  If you have read my other beauty articles that I mentioned at the top of this post, you know that I talk in depth about how bad sugar, lack of sleep, and picking at your face can be for your beauty.  If you want to practice everything I list in these articles, my best advice to you would be to strive to keep your stress levels as low as possible.

Now, let me say that I fully understand that sometimes stress is completely unavoidable. Things such as traffic jams, rude and difficult people, and money struggles are almost impossible to avoid.  No matter how hard you try to not be stressed out, if you live in this world, you are going to find yourself stressed at one point or another.

What I am talking about here is trying to avoid chronic stress.  Chronic means reoccurring, or constant.  Chronic stress is stress that you experience over and over, day after day, week after week.  The human body has been built to adequately cope with stress when it arises here and there.  The human body was not built to cope with chronic stress that occurs day after day, week after week, and year after year.  If you find that you are chronically stressed out, I would highly suggest performing a life audit.

What is a life audit you ask?  Basically,  it's just taking a good, hard look at your life and what is going on in it.  Write down everything that is bothering you and stressing you out in your life right now.  Ask yourself some hard questions.  Some examples of questions to ask yourself could be:  Are you really happy with where you are living?  Are you really willing to pay what you are paying for the quality of life you have?  The goal of a life audit is to figure out exactly what is not working for you and what is becoming a source of chronic stress.  Things that may have worked for you in the past may no longer be working for you now.  This is why it's a great idea to perform life audits at different stages of life.  Maybe you are paying a lot of money for a small house in the city and now that your family has grown, you would be willing to move further out to get something bigger.  Maybe your job is paying the bills, but killing you with stress.  Life audits are all about pinpointing sources of stress and performing trade offs to mitigate that stress.  And with lower stress, comes better health, and with better health, comes beauty.

So today, before you go to bed, why not sit down and think about what is causing you stress, and examine whether it is causing you chronic stress. If it is, brainstorm about some ways to reduce or get rid of these stresses.  Your body, and your beauty, will thank you!
