Have you noticed everyone seems to have designer handbags these days?  Just take a look around the world of Instagram and you will see them everywhere.  Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton are some of the most popular ones I see people carrying.  I used to wonder how everyone is able to afford these bags because they are literally thousands of dollars.  I started doing a bit of research and I realized that there is an entire world of designer handbags out there for sale that cost considerably less money than brand new ones do.  Today I am going the list the four places where I buy my pre-loved designer handbags from.  I save thousands of dollars buying my bags from these places.  If you too would like to own some nice designer handbags without having to pay the hefty price tag that comes with the new ones, please keep reading.  I have included some coupon codes as well as information on how to get big cash credits from some of these merchants.

In order to get an authentic designer handbag for considerably less money, you need to buy them pre-loved.  The term "pre-loved" simply means that the bags have been already used, or "loved", by a previous owner.  I have no problems buying used handbags, but I only buy used bags that pass certain requirements.

I don't buy bags that have any smell whatsoever because I am very sensitive to odors and often get bad headaches from strong smells.  I also don't buy bags whose straps are about to rip because, well let's face it, straps are pretty important for a purse and I don't want to spend money getting them repaired.  I don't buy used bags whose zippers are broken or not functioning properly, and I don't buy used bags whose insides are falling apart, ripped, or have very big stains or any mold whatsoever.

Having said all that, would you believe that I am still able to find lots of designer bags that pass all my requirements and cost less than $200?  It's pretty hard to believe, I know, but it is totally possible, and I'm going to tell you the four places where I get these pre-loved designer bags in such good condition.

Before I get into the four places I buy from, I wanted to quickly mention something specific for Louis Vuitton bags. If you happen to be shopping around for pre-loved Luis Vuitton bags, here is a tip:  You will see a lot of used Louis Vuitton Bucket Tote bags for sale.  I believe the reason there are so many of these for sale is because their linings seem to deteriorate quicker than other types of bags.  Many of the pre-loved Louis Vuitton bucket totes will have inside linings in very bad shape.  Because of this, please, please make sure to view pictures of the inside of these bucket totes before you buy them.  You should view the inside of any bag you want to purchase honestly, but especially Louis Vuitton bucket tote bags.  It is possible to find many pre-loved Louis Vuitton bucket totes with linings in almost perfect condition, but it will take a lot of looking around and careful browsing to find them.  Here's an example of a Louis Vuitton bucket tote below:

1.  The

The RealReal sells luxury designer items that have been consigned.  They guarantee the authenticity of the designer items that they sell.  They will give you a FREE $25 credit towards your first purchase when you sign up with an email address. The credit must be used within a certain number of days however there is no minimum purchase amount required to use the $25 credit.

This is one of the only companies that will give you a free $25 in cash and not require any minimum purchase.  Talk about a seriously awesome customer service policy!!  You could technically get a pair of designer sunglasses or jewelry for completely free! I got a pair of Marc Jacobs sunglasses for completely pennies with my welcome credit.

Here's a really great tip for shopping this company: The best time to shop their site is late at night because there are more items available and you can find better deals.  Right now, you can get 20% off many items with this promo code!  This is a limited time promo code.

In addition to buying from The RealReal, you can also become a consignor and sell your own stuff on their site.

If you are a blogger or influencer, I HIGHLY recommend becoming an affiliate of this company!  I was given a very generous bonus for making a sale within a certain time frame after becoming an affiliate.  And yes, your own purchases can count!  You may always use your own links when you purchase from The RealReal.  You can join their program through the program.  To learn more about how works, please see my post, 5 Ways ShareASale Changed My Life.  You can also just join there program directly here: TheRealReal Influencer Program.

They also have a consignor affiliate program, meaning, you will earn money for every new consignor you refer to them.  You can learn more about their consignor program here: Consignor Affiliate Program.

2. Tradesy.

(Please note that I am not an affiliate of Tradesy, they currently don't offer an affiliate program).

Tradesy offers some of the lowest prices around for pre-loved designer bags and they are always offering flash sales on different items and categories, which is why you definitely want to sign up for email notifications.  When you sign up for their newsletter with an email address, they will give you a FREE $50 credit towards any $400 purchase.  If you don't want to spend $400 but still want a discount, just use my link for $20 OFF any purchase of $50 or more!

Just like The RealReal, Tradesy guarantees the authenticity of their items, which is huge in my book!  I bought the Louis Vuitton Monogram Shoulder Bag pictured above from this particular seller on Tradesy and had a great experience:  TheBagriculture.

3.  Yard Sales.

If you read The Makeup Equation, you know I am a huge fan of yard sales - see my posts, 10 Ways To Sucker Punch Your Bad Spending Habits In The Throat and 5 Money Saving Secrets That Save Me Thousands Of Dollars Each Year to learn more about this.  Although yard sales can be less reliable than stores, you can find designer bags for very cheap.  I cannot tell you how many times in my early days I passed over piles of nice designer hand bags not even realizing what they were or how cheaply they were being sold.  Now a days with everyone selling on ebay and Amazon, there is more competition for these items and less people sell them so cheaply, but every now and then I will go to a yard sale where they are being sold for literally pennies compared to what they are worth.  If you have the time to wait, yard sales are a great way to find some really good deals on designer items.

4. eBay.

Many are aware that you can find pre-loved designer bags on eBay.  When buying pre-loved designer bags from eBay, there are a few key things you will want to take into consideration to avoid buying a fake bag or a bag that is in deplorable condition.

First, you will need to decide whether you want to buy only from US sellers, or whether you are willing to buy from international sellers as well.  I wish I could say one is better than the other, but from what I have seen, I do think there are many US sellers out there that are selling designer bags they ordered from international sellers.  So buying from a US seller really doesn't guarantee you will get an authentic bag or a bag in better condition because they could have just bought this bag from overseas.  The biggest reason you need to consider this is because the length of time you will wait for you bag will vary drastically depending on the location of your seller.  US located items usually don't take more than a week to arrive, whereas items located outside of the US can take up to a month or more to arrive.

The second thing I highly recommend doing when buying a designer bag on ebay is to research your seller very well.  Firstly, I don't even work with sellers whose overall rating percent is under 99%, and it's really best to only work with sellers with a 99.9% rating.  Second, you need to read as many of their reviews as you can - the positive, the neutral, and the negative.  These reviews will give you a lot of insight into the nature of the seller.  If you see lots of negative or neutral reviews stating that they took their bag to a dealer and was told it's a fake, do not buy from this seller!  If you see lots of reviews saying the bag was in horrible condition, was not as described, or had a terrible smell, I also wouldn't buy from this seller.  You also want to avoid sellers who seem to get nasty with their buyers as this is telling you about the moral quality of this seller.  Luckily, positive reviews can tell you a lot too.  I have found two eBay sellers with a lot of positive reviews that say that these buyers had their bags checked and they were verified as authentic.  These are the types of sellers you want to work with.

Buying a designer bag from eBay can take considerably more time than buying a bag from a place like The RealReal or Tradesy, and there is no guarantee of authenticity either, but if you are lucky, you will be able to get an authentic bag for a steal.

I hate spending more money than I have too, and the prices of brand new designer bags are simply too steep for my budget.  Luckily, with the existence of the pre-loved market, now even stay-at-home moms on a strict one-income budget can afford beautiful designer handbags!
